Advocacy

Advocacy for realizing the right to health and SRHR is prioritized in National Development Agenda

Advocacy is a process of creating support, building consensus and fostering a favourable and conducive environment through well-planned actions undertaken at various levels of governance by individuals or organisations working for a cause.

In line with this principle, FPA India relentlessly advocates with key stakeholders through strategic advocacy, partnerships and coalitions for realizing the sexual and reproductive health and rights of people, especially the poor and vulnerable.

Through our strategic advocacy initiatives, we strive to bring about changes at the policy formulation, implementation and improvement stages to achieve universal access to sexual and reproductive health information, services, and programs (to work towards addressing stigma and discrimination, zero tolerance towards sexual and gender based violence and towards community advocacy for greater realization of rights for all).

  • Garnering support of the public and private sector for SRH rights for all,
  • Sensitizing media personnel (print and electronic) to stimulate public consciousness through media for SRH rights and mobilizing media support,
  • Social mobilization through community groups and networks at the field level
  • Creating Champions from diverse sectors, including young people to support and promote SRHR

The rapidly changing national demographics, strong national health programmes and the ambitious Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme, all impact the way FPA India plans and delivers its sexual and reproductive health (SRH) programmes. The Government of India implements many schemes for young people, women and vulnerable groups related to health, livelihood and rights. These pose opportunities for a strong referral system and partnership building, affecting long-term SRHR outcomes.

FPA India has been participating in district, state, national and international meetings and discourses to discuss and review Sustainable Development Goals, International Conference on Population and Development, Family Planning 2020 (FP2020), Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram, Mission Parivar Vikas and other important development programmes centered around Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health .
